History: Sirius was born April 10th, 1960 in a private wizarding clinic in London to Orion and Walburga Black, who rejoiced at the birth of a son to carry on the Black name and pureblooded line. Unfortunately for them, young Sirius, a cheerfully rambunctious troublemaker from the start, did not turn out exactly as they had hoped. To his parents' dismay, he was Sorted into Gryffindor rather than Slytherin (the traditional Black house) when he started at Hogwarts. During his first year, he became close friends with three fellow Gryffindors: James Potter, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. In his fifth year, Sirius, along with Potter and Pettigrew, mastered the Animagus transfiguration in order to keep Lupin, a werewolf, company during the full moons. As one of the youngest Animagi in history, Sirius gained the ability to transform at will into a large black dog. His status as an Animagus was kept secret from the Ministry of Magic and the Hogwarts faculty and students. At the age of sixteen, his strained relationship with his parents reached the breaking point, and Sirius left home to live with James Potter. He was subsequently disowned and blasted off the Black family tree, though he maintains a tentative relationship with his younger brother Regulus, a Slytherin one year below him.
Appearance: Sirius is a little over 5 feet 11 inches tall (he wishes his body would hurry up and grow an extra two-thirds of an inch so he could hit six feet). He has a lean build, thick black hair that is constantly falling into his eyes and is in need of a good trim, fair skin, slate-grey eyes, and the elegant, clean-cut features characteristic of the Black family. Quirks of his appearance include a dark mole on his neck (he is quite fond of it), a birthmark he swears is shaped like a dog on the inside of his left wrist, and a hole in his right earlobe that is slowly closing up since Professor McGonagall forced him to remove his newly-acquired piercing at the beginning of the school year. Sirius prefers to dress in jeans, boots and whatever shirt happens to be handy rather than the formal wizarding robes he grew up wearing. He will wear any colours except yellow and green - yellow because he thinks it washes him out, and green because it's too "Slytheriny" for him. He is usually a little unkempt, with inkstains on his shirt cuffs and melted sweets in his robe pockets. Yet even when he's at his scruffiest, there is an innate air of elegance and hauteur about him which has been passed down to him through the generations - remnants of his breeding and upbringing which he can never truly shed.
Personality: Fun-loving and assertive with a passion for pranks, Sirius has an easygoing nature (except where Severus Snape is concerned) but will bite if provoked - sometimes literally. He can be arrogant, looking down on people without even realizing it, and having grown up surrounded by magic has a certain disdain for Muggle technology, "unless it's something fun like a tellyvision". He is more likely to row with someone he is angry with for a while and then forgive and forget than hold a grudge - again, except where Severus Snape is concerned. Sirius dislikes Snape intensely, hexing him at the slightest provocation, and has earned many hours of detention for it. (The origin of the feud between these two boys is rather murky, but it is believed to date back to a comment made on their first trip on the Hogwarts Express at the beginning of their first year.) Sirius never goes halfway on anything. His likes are as intense as his dislikes, and there is not much grey area in between. If he has an opinion, he will be sure to let you know. He is slightly uncomfortable with revealing his feelings to others, even his best friends, and tends to chatter on about nothing in particular to cover it up. He does not like to expose his vulnerabilities or weaknesses.
Strengths: Keen intelligence, quick-thinking, loyalty, bravery, ability to charm even Minerva McGonagall (occasionally, and when she is in a very good mood).
Weaknesses: Maths, penchant for overindulging in alcoholic beverages, laziness in matters of schoolwork, recklessness, wizard chess (likes it, but is a rubbish player), a short attention span.
Secrets: Apart from the fact that he is an Animagus, which he keeps secret from everyone but his closest friends, the biggest secret Sirius has is that before he left his parents' house, he hid various perishable items (food, roadkill, pleasant things like that) around the house and charmed them to slowly decay over the course of several years to drive his parents insane. He is quite sure they will never discover the source of the lingering smell, and hopes his mother, who always looks as though she's sniffing something disgusting, anyway, will have to walk around the house for the next decade with a Bubble-Head Charm. He feels a little bad for his brother, though, so he didn't hide anything in Regulus's room.
House/Year: Gryffindor House, seventh year.
Extra-curriculars: Unwilling member of the Slug Club (the Potions Master's society for the so-called elite), part-time Quidditch announcer, part-time tutor for fifth and sixth-year Transfiguration (he likes how the pretty girls gaze adoringly at him whenever he performs a spell).
Best Classes: Transfiguration, History of Magic, Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Worst Classes: Arithmancy, Potions.
Alliance: Order of the Phoenix - Dumbledore has spoken to the Marauders about it, and they plan to join as soon as they graduate.
